"Moon River" Meher Baba and Mehera (Baba in the Hammock) (1973-1982)
As a child I loved to listen to my Uncle Saul sing and play "Moon River"on the organ and I envisioned a black river with a boat gliding down stream in the moonlight. Albert Pinkum Ryder's painting of Woman Adrift in a Rowboat with Her Baby was also part of my imagery. I started the painting in 1973 after my first trip to India. Mehera told me she wished there were photos of Baba and herself looking into each other's eyes, so, I decided to make one. I soon found that they were looking at each other always but it was from within the heart. Mehera told me she loved the print of this painting and when I asked her if she wanted to have the painting she answered, "For now, it should hang on your wall, but later your paintings will be in museums and large houses."
