Persepolis

Arch of Cyrus the Great
Near Shiraz, Iran/Spring 2004

The massive arch of Cyrus the Great stands in the entry way of Persepolis in tribute to the great Persian king. He espoused and upheld the decree that all cultures could co-exist peacefully in his kingdom. I could feel the nobility in the lion like head of the bas-relief and it gave relief still as I painted in its shadow to avoid the scorching noonday sun.
