My Persian Inner-Outer Garden

This is a photograph of the garden I built between 1991 and 2001. As I was creating it, I called it my "Persian Inner-Outer Garden". In 2003, I painted a Hoopoe in my painting Abundance and then I went to Shiraz, Iran and saw my first Hoopoes in the Garden of Paradise (Bagh-e-Eram). As I painted daily in this garden, I realized that this was my Inner Garden!

I always searched for my inner garden as a child. When I built this garden it became the manifestation of my inner garden — my Heaven on Earth. In building it I learned to become a co-creator with Nature. I learned to listen within for the correct placement of the plants and trees and rocks. I learned to paint from my inner joy from this process that took ten years when I became a child and student of Nature. I had finally created a natural environment for the frogs and tadpoles I had wished I could create as a child and now there was even a waterfall to sit by too!
